Riverfront Medical Evaluations Limited was founded by Dr. Harvey Lewis in 1989. Riverfront was one of the first companies to provide organized Insurer's Examinations in Ontario.

During the course of the 1990s Riverfront emerged as a leading provider of independent medical assessments in Ontario and across Canada. The quality and expertise of Riverfront's services led Riverfront to become a preferred vendor to most of the leading insurers in Canada, as well as establishing significant relationships with the WSIB, employers and the medical/legal community.

In 2001, Riverfront won a landmark ruling from the Tax Court of Canada confirming that the services provided by Riverfront were exempt from the application of Goods and Services Tax on the basis that Riverfront's services were exempt health care services. In conjunction with the Insurance Bureau of Canada and the Canadian Life & Health Insurance Association, Riverfront began a nearly five year challenge with the Canada Revenue Agency ("CRA") to confirm that the tax exempt nature of Riverfront's services decided by the Tax Court of Canada be accepted by the CRA and applied across the insurance industry. In September of 2006 the CRA issued Policy Statement P-248 acknowledging that corporate health care providers which were organized in a manner consistent with that of Riverfront would be allowed to treat their supply of services to clients as GST exempt.

In 2003, Riverfront achieved another milestone with its ISO 9001 (AQSR) certification, an internationally recognized quality assurance standard. To the best of the company's knowledge, Riverfront is one of only two ISO 9001 Registered national providers of corporate health care services.

In December, 2003, Riverfront was sold to Dr. Sheldon Levy, a practicing physician. With this transfer of ownership Riverfront changed its name to Riverfront Medical Services to better reflect the expanded scope of services offered by the Company beyond its traditional independent medical assessments.

Today, Riverfront continues to pride itself on its long history of providing quality, impartial and objective assessments for the insurance industry, employers, governments, and legal communities, while at the same time levering its unrivalled national roster of specialist health care professionals to provide ongoing short term disability management to employers and others.
