Vocational Assessments
Conducted by a Vocational Specialist, the purpose of the assessment is to identify vocational alternatives for which the individual is better suited by taking into account his/her medical problems, standardized vocational testing results and a computerized Transferable Skills Analysis. The assessment report outlines the individual's aptitude skills, academic achievement, preferred temperaments and interests. According to these results, suitable employment and specific occupations are then identified. These occupations usually incorporate the individual's educational and vocational background and allow them to use his/her transferable skills without the need to academically upgrade or do additional training.
Although the individual's physical and/or psychological concerns are considered, the assessment does not give any indication of his/her physical capacity to perform the job duties of the respective occupations identified. These areas are not directly tested in a Vocational Assessment and should be addressed by the appropriate professional via an FCE, IME or Psycho-Vocational assessment as appropriate.
Psycho-vocational Assessments
Conducted by a Psychologist, psycho-vocational assessment looks at the patient's longstanding personality traits, their current psychological symptoms, and compares and contrasts these with measures of achievement, aptitude, and interests. It is not intended to replace a full-scale vocational assessment that typically includes a transferable skills analysis and/or a physical demands analysis. It does not provide a survey of the job market. The goal of a psycho-vocational assessment is to determine whether, from an emotional perspective, the patient is able and motivated to return to their usual employment, or if that is not an option, to make some general suggestions for alternate forms of employment that are suitable for their personality and level of emotional functioning.
